What beach lover, diver or snorkeler doesn’t dream of the Maldives? For years, I’ve envisioned this magical place with powdery white sand, reefs teeming with life and water as clear and sparkling as freshly cleaned glass. Thankfully, it didn’t take much nudging to convince Mr. Reeftraveler that we needed to get to the Maldives – and fast!

We stayed at Mirihi, an idyllic island resort in the South Ari Atoll. The South Ari Atoll is widely known to have the best dive/snorkel sites in the Maldives, and all I can say is WOW! We chose a time of year (February) when we were likely to have great weather AND have the highest chance of spotting whale sharks.

FOR BEACH LOVERS

Mirihi, like many of the Maldivian islands, is ringed by powdery soft white sand.

FOR DIVERS AND SNORKELERS

The expansive house reef was home to a magnificent array of life. I spent my (blissful) days snorkeling and photographing sea life.

I found an abundance of reef sharks and graceful spotted eagle rays.

And friendly sea turtles
Many beautiful schools
And vibrant giant clams
Many types of colorful corals competed for space on the vibrant house reef.
You can see my full underwater Maldives portfolio at SmugMug.

I’d love to know, what is your dream beach, dive or snorkel destination?

Stay tuned for my next post for a review of Mirihi resort.
