While out for a leisurely day of boating in St. John a few weeks ago, we stumbled upon this beauty.
Her name is Rising Sun, and she’s currently the 8th longest motor yacht in the world.
Length – 454 ft (138.4 m)
Built in 2004
Built by Lurssen Yachts for Larry Ellison
Owned by David Geffen
Accommodation for 16 guests and 48 crew
Rising Sun is the product of a raging case of yacht envy. She was commissioned by Larry Ellison specifically to build a yacht larger than Paul Allen’s Octopus.
A reader has alerted me that the yacht pictured above is actually Fountainhead rather than Rising Sun.
Fountainhead was completed this year, and she tops out at 288 ft (87.87 m). She is owned by Mark Cuban.
