Pro Underwater Photo Editing

Eagle Ray Before and After

Underwater photography can be hard to get right.  Even with good image capture, editing can make the difference between winning images and drab snapshots.

As an experienced underwater photo editing specialist and scuba diver of 20+ years, I’ve learned techniques which can make a major difference when it comes to highlighting the best of every image.

My philosophy is that high quality image editing requires a light touch, familiarity with underwater subjects and their behavior, technical knowledge of editing software and tools, as well as the understanding of the photographer’s intent.

Editing services include the adjustment of exposure, white balancing, color correction, cropping, adjustment of highlights and shadows, removal of stray objects and backscatter removal.     I can also add text to your image or add a watermark upon request.

Services are priced as follows and depend upon complexity:

One image – $20-30

Five images – $85 – $150

Ten images – $150 – $250

Additional Tips and Considerations for the Photographer

I strongly prefer to edit files that are shot in the RAW file format (the equivalent of digital negatives).  While I will accept JPEG images for editing, I can not guarantee optimal results.  Also, please be aware that once a JPEG file is edited, it can not be converted back to its original state without significant file data loss.

If you shoot in low light (at depth) with no strobe or strobes, it will be very difficult to produce a true color saturated image, even with expert editing.  I may still accept your image or images for editing, but results are not guaranteed.

I do not add elements to a photo that were not present in the shot as originally captured.

I use Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Elements for my editing work.
