Bonaire is one of the best known locations in the world for spotting flamingos (Caribbean Flamingo, Phoenicopterus ruber).  Lake Gotomeer in the north, Lac Cai on the east coast and the salt flats in the south are the best places for sighting this candy-colored beauty.

These highly social animals mate for life, and they are often found in colonies.  And while they prefer the company of other flamingos, they are extremely wary of any type of human interference.  When photographing flamingos, you must have a telephoto lens (and lots of patience).
